Bio: Over the years, the programs and activities of Nairobi south YMCA have increased in scope and content giving the branch a community outlook. The expansion has seen the growth of a wide range of demand driven programs and activities. The record of growth has been guided by our mandate to address and articulate felt needs of children, youth and the community

Programmes & Activities

EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES

The Exchange Programme seeks to unite different branches within the country and learn from each other in terms of programmes, the youths, with the help of the Branch Programmes Coordinator facilitate their own Transport and visits different Branches for the exchange. Some of the activities that take place during the exchange include;

• Hikes
• Experiential learning
• Dialogues
• Sports
• Entertainments
• Programmes exchanges
• Camping and others e.g bonfires

HI-Y PROGRAMME

This is a school/college based programme that is designed to empower and enhance the process of developing the spirit, mind and body through activities that meet developmental needs of youths.

Some activities include;

• Life skills facilitation
• Goal setting
• Stress management
• Mentorship
• Under standing sexuality
• Peer pressure
• Drugs and substance abuse
• Time management and career choice and others
• Modelling
Through this programme, youth begin to understand themselves well and are able to make informed decisions.

SPORTS & RECREATION PROGRAMMES

Sports are an essential programme as many youths engage in different sports. The YMCA has provided safe space for many youths to be able to nature their talents and develop their skills. Sports are a uniting factor among many youth and sporting events help mobilise youth together

• Football – the branch has 2 football teams in South C
• Indoor games
• Movie Night
• Team building activities etc

HEALTH REPRODUCTIVE AND HIV/AIDS

These programmes seek to develop and advocate for behavior change.
• Sexuality
• Drugs & Substance abuse etc
• Sexual Reproductive health rights

ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMMES

Environmental conservation efforts are emphasized through community- based initiatives.
• Tree planting
• Community Clean ups
• Positive dialogues on how to conserve the environment

PEER MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME

Girls/boys education in Menstrual Hygiene, GBV

YOUTH PEACE & SECURITY

Building Capacity of youths in the community in Conflict resolution, Civic engagement, and community peacebuilding.
• Strengthen peace building and social cohesion in the community
• Empower youth and women on issues pertaining you, peace and security in the community
• Pre-Dialogue between youth leaders and the local administration
• Dialogue/training on youth, peace and security
• GBV awareness

EDUCATION

• Primary school education (CBC) ECDE, Primary & JSS (Junior School)

• ECDE (Earlier childhood development) child mentorship programme

• Skills development. (ICT, Hospitality & Cosmetology)

CHRISTIAN EMPHASIS

• Morning devotions in school
• Bible reading (memory verses)
• Worship songs for learners
• Christian Union Rallies
